Photo courtesy of Lakeland University Athletic Department In addition, he became the school’s all-time career leading rusher, with 2,757 career yards, according to the records and stats posted on LakelandMuskies.com Rivers surpassed Lakeland’s old single-season record (1,197 yards) on Saturday, Nov. 2 during a 50-49 loss to Eureka College. The record had stood since 1990. Just one week earlier, he became the first Lakeland player in 24 years to surpass the 1,000-yard rushing mark in a season, and just the fifth in school history, with a 211-yard performance in the Muskies' 39-6 win over Wisconsin Lutheran. Lakeland is located in Plymouth, Wisconsin, about 60 miles south of Green Bay. Rivers scored nine rushing touchdowns this fall and also caught 17 passes for 189 yards and a score. In the season opener, against Carroll University, he rushed for 276 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 34 yards and a touchdown. Overall, Rivers has played in every game for the Muskies since joining the team as a freshman in 2017. He earned first-team all-conference honors last year in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference as a running back and he picked up second-team honors as a kick returner. He just missed the 1,000-yard rushing mark in 2018, with 980 yards on the ground, and he wrapped up the 2018 campaign with 1,668 all-purpose yards. In addition, Rivers picked up the NACC Scholar-Athlete Award last year. Rivers and the Lakeland squad closed out the 2019 season last Saturday with a loss to Aurora University.
